LG Tribute HD Adoptable External Storage – Move Apps to SD Card

LG Tribute HD has 16GB internal memory out of which around 9.8 GB is available for storage. It can be boosted with the help of an external sd card but the app data, game data, downloads, screenshots etc are stored into internal storage by default.
You can free up the internal storage up to an extent by moving the data to sd card but eventually, it gets filled up and a stage comes when you’ve to uninstalled old apps to install new ones. This is quite frustrating and here comes the adoptable storage to our rescue.

This feature was introduced in Marshmallow. By doing this we can adopt a part of the external sd card as internal storage, thus boosting the Device storage space for app installation.
It’s very useful feature for the budget phones (including Tribute HD) running on Android 6.0 with expandable memory. However, in most of the phones, it is disabled by the manufacturer and needs to be enabled via ADB. We’ve to do the same for Tribute HD. Thanks to the one-click tool by  Octanium91@xdaforums for making this process easier.

Before proceeding towards the tutorial, keep few things in mind regarding adoptable storage –

  • Pick the highest speed sd card. At least a Class 10 micro sd card should be used.
  • Don’t remove the sd card once it’s adopted. You may face force close errors.
  • Do it only if you need space for apps & games. Media files can be easily stored in sd card/cloud.
  • Things may slow down a little, as the sd card won’t have a better read/write speed that the phone’s native internal storage.
  • The life of sd card may reduce with frequent read/write operations.

Keeping the above things in mind, Let’s proceed towards the tutorial –

How to Enable Adoptable Storage on LG Tribute HD –

lg tribute hd usb debugging

As we’ve to connect the phone in ADB mode, we need to turn on USB Debugging.

Open phone settings by pulling down the notification bar and tap on settings icon at top right corner.

Go to “Developer Options” and click on “USB Debugging” to turn it on.

Now, Connect the phone to PC via USB Data Cable.

If you’ve not yet enabled Developer Options on your Tribute HD, learn how to do it.

You should also have the LG Tribute HD ADB Drivers installed on your computer before proceeding to next step.

Now, download the files needed for creating adoptable storage. Download the zip file from below link and extract it on your computer.

In the extracted files folder, look for a file named, aftiss.cmd and double-click to run it.

You can see the 4 options above.

By selecting 1 it’ll create a partition in the ratio of 25:75 i.e 25% will be reserved for adoptable storage and rest 75% will be available for normal usage.

The 2nd option splits the partition into 50-50, 3rd one to 75-25 and the last one i.e Custom allows to choose your own ratio.

I’ve selected 1 as shown above. As I hit Enter, It splits my 16GB SD Card (available 14.8GB) to 3.7GB as internal storage and 11.1 GB as external storage.
