The black screen issue is quite common in Android smartphones. The black screen on your Stylo 6 can be due to a software or hardware issue.
In most cases, the black screen is the result of a bad LCD. However, a software glitch can also cause turn your screen black. Let’s find the root cause and try to fix our Stylo 6 as per the below troubleshooting guide –
How to fix LG Stylo 6 Black Screen
There can be 3 scenarios. Your phone turns on but the screen remains black. The screen keeps turning off every now and then. The phone is completely dead. It’s not turning on at all.
We need to make sure if the phone is on or off. Try ringing yourself from another phone. If your phone rings but the screen remains black then the phone is on.
You can also bring your phone to a dark environment and test the LCD. If it’s emitting light then the phone is on.

Now, to fix the Stylo 6 black screen issue, let’s try the below troubleshooting steps –
Soft Reset / Force Restart
The most basic Stylo 6 troubleshooting is Soft Reset. It’s nothing but a normal restart.
As our Stylo 6 screen is black, we can try to boot it with a force restart.
Press and hold the Volume down and power buttons for 10 seconds or until the phone restarts.
If the screen remains black, try the next troubleshooting step –
Try to boot into Recovery Mode and perform a Hard Reset
If the force restart failed, it’s very likely that the phone will fail to boot into recovery mode as well. However, we can still give it a try.
We need to use the same button combination for the recovery mode.
To put your Stylo 6 into recovery mode –
Press the volume down and power button to boot the phone.
When the phone vibrates, release the power button and hold it again. Now, keep holding both the keys until you reach the factory data reset screen.
If you have gained access to the recovery mode, use it to factory reset the phone. You can also hit the “No” option to reboot the phone.
If you fail to boot into recovery mode, then let’s try the download mode in the next step.
Try to put your Stylo 6 into Download Mode / Stuck on Boot Screen / Stuck on Firmware Update
Let’s try to access the Download Mode. If we get access to the “Firmware Update” screen, we can restore our phone by flashing the stock firmware.
To put your Stylo 6 into recovery mode –
- Get a USB C data cable.
- Turn on your computer.
- Connect one end of the USB cable to the PC.
- Now, press the Volume UP button on your Stylo 6. Keep the button pressed, and connect the other end of the USB C cable to Stylo 6.
- This should bring you to the “Firmware Update” screen. It’s known as the Download Mode.
Download the LG Stylo 6 firmware from the below link and flash it using the LGUP Flash tool –
You can follow the same procedure, if your Stylo 6 is stuck on the boot screen/Boost Mobile, Cricket, T-Mobile, or Metro Screen.

Power Button Not Working
If your Stylo 6 power button is stuck or not working then you won’t be able to turn on your screen.
If the phone is on but the power button is not working, try to double-tap the screen. The knock-on feature can wake the phone from sleep.
Try to charge the phone. If the charging symbol appears on the screen then the LCD is fine. If the phone is charging fine but not turning on with the power button, we need to replace the power button.
The replacement power button flex cable connector sells for around $7 at eBay.
LG Stylo 6 Screen/LCD not working
If all the above troubleshooting steps fail to restore your Stylo 6, the issue is definitely with the LCD.
We need to replace the Stylo 6 LCD. The Stylo 6 LCD with frame comes at a hefty price of around $88 at eBay. The good thing is you can fix this on your own. The LCD without a frame will cost a little less but it requires more precision during replacement.
LG Stylo 6 Screen goes Black during a call
If your Stylo 6 screen turns black only during a call, the issue is with the Proximity Sensor. You can go through the Proximity Sensor test.
The Proximity sensor test can be found in the Stylo 6 Hidden Menu –
If your’s is a Boost Stylo 6, to get access to the hidden menu, open the phone dialer and dial 5689#*730#

To get access to the Proximity sensor test, select the first option on the hidden menu page i.e. “Device Test”.
Now, go to “SAAT” > “Service Menu-Manual Test”.
Select the 2nd test i.e. the “Key Press Test” as shown above.
Follow the instructions on the screen to test your Stylo 6 Proximity sensor.
The color should change between blue & red when you block and unblock the proximity sensor with your hand.
The proximity sensor is located beside the Front camera on your Stylo 6.
