LG Stylo 5 is now updated to Android 10. The secure-startup option is found on LG phones running on Android 9 & below. As Stylo 5 was launched with Android 9 the secure startup option remains even after the Android 10 update.
It adds an added layer of security over the regular screen lock. As the name suggests, it gets activated on every restart. After the device start-up, you won’t receive any calls, messages & notifications until you unlock the secure startup screen with the correct PIN/Pattern/Password.
There are 2 ways to bypass the secure startup, either you need to exhaust the 30 attempts or you can hard reset the phone via recovery mode.
Let’s see how to reach the LG Stylo 5 home screen when stuck on Secure-startup –
How to bypass Secure Startup on LG Stylo 5 – Forgot PIN/Pattern/Password – Locked Out lm-q720
I’m stuck on the LG Stylo 5 secure startup pattern lock screen.
I do not remember the correct pattern lock. It shows 30 attempts remaining.
After every 10 failed attempts, you need to restart the phone and try again.
On the final attempt, it shows a warning. If you do not draw the correct pattern, your phone will be automatically factory data reset and all files will be erased.
There is no need to wait until the 30 failed attempts, we can hard reset the phone using the volume down + power keys.
To reset the phone, we need to power it off.
Long-press the power button and choose “POWER OFF” as shown above.
Once your Stylo 5 is off, press the volume down + power button.
As soon as the “LG Stylo 5” logo appears, release the power key for a moment and hold it again. Do not release the volume down button.
Now, keep pressing both the buttons until you reach the “Factory Data Reset” screen.
Our Stylo 5 is now in Recovery Mode.
Move down from “No(Exit)” to “Yes” with the volume button.
Now, click the power key to select the “Yes” option.
Again go down from “No” to “Yes” and click the power key to reset your Stylo 5.
After the reset, I’ve landed on the “Welcome” page. It’s the first screen of the setup wizard.
Hit the “Forward arrow” to proceed.
Now, connect your Stylo 5 to a Wifi network.
It stays on the “Checking for updates” screen for a while and then reaches the “Copy apps & data” page.
Click “Don’t copy” to move ahead.
Now, it brings us to the pattern lock verification screen. I don’t remember the correct pattern. There is one more alternate option – USE MY GOOGLE ACCOUNT INSTEAD”. Let’s click on it.
This time we are on the Google verification screen. It’s asking to sign in with the previously synced Google account.
Enter your Google account credentials and follow the on-screen prompts to reach the Stylo 5 home screen.
However, if you don’t remember the last-synced account follow the below hack to bypass the FRP lock –
How to bypass Google Verification – FRP lock on LG Stylo 5 5x 5 plus No PC lm-q720
To bypass the Google lock we need a locked SIM Card.
I’m using LG K51 and MetroPCS SIM for this task.
You can use any phone to lock any SIM card.
If using LG phone –
Open the Settings app and tap “Search Settings”.
Now, enter the search term SIM and select “Set up SIM card lock” as shown above.
Turn on the “Lock SIM Card” option.
Now, enter the default SIM PIN. It’s 1234 in the case of MetroPCS.
Enter the PIN and hit “OK”. The SIM card lock is now enabled.
The default SIM PIN varies from carrier to carrier. You can search it in Google.
Remove the locked SIM Card and insert it in your Stylo 5.
Check your Stylo 5 screen, it’s asking for the PIN Code.
Enter the code 1234 and hit the “tick icon”.
Now, there is a “Not Signed in” notification on the screen.
We need to swipe down the screen starting from “Not signed in” towards the bottom. You can follow the arrow in the above screenshot.
A few quick access icons appear on the top. Long-press the Bluetooth icon.
Now, turn on “Bluetooth” and bring a Bluetooth headset or earbud.
I’m using the earbud – “PTron Bassbuds Pro”.
Pair your Bluetooth device with the Stylo 5.
Now, press the call button of the Bluetooth/touch area of the earbud for 2 seconds and release it.
This action will launch Google Assistant on your phone.
Now, hit the mic icon and say the voice command open settings
It brings us to the Settings app.
Click “Fingerprints” and then hit “Next”.
We are now on the “Select Screen Lock” page.
Let’s use it to add a new PIN, Pattern, or Password.
I’ve chosen the PIN option.
Set up an easy to remember PIN such as 1234
Re-enter the PIN and click OK.
We have successfully changed the screen lock.
Now, let’s go back & use this new PIN to bypass Google verification.
Go back using the back button to reach the first page.
On the Welcome screen, click the forward button.
Now, hit “Don’t copy” on the “Copy apps & data” screen.
It skipped the screen lock verification page & brought me directly to the “Verify your account” screen. We need the “Verify PIN” option to bypass the FRP lock.
To restore that page, we are going to hard reset the phone once again via Recovery Mode.
Power off your Stylo 5 using the power button.
Press the volume down + power keys to boot your phone.
As soon as the LG Stylo 5 logo appears, release the power button for a moment and hold it again. Do not leave the volume down key.
Keep pressing both the keys to enter Recovery Mode.
Use the volume button to go down from “No” to “Yes”. Now click the power button once.
Again move down from “No” to “Yes” and hit the power key to reset your device.
The factory reset takes a few minutes & then brings us to the “Welcome” screen.
Hit the forward button to move ahead.
Choose “Don’t copy” when your reach the “Copy apps & data” screen.
This time it brings me to the “Verify PIN” screen.
Let’s enter the screen lock PIN we added a few steps ago it’s 1234 and tap “OK”.
The PIN verification was successful. We get a “Skip” option on the Google sign-in page.
Use it to skip the Google account setup.
Accept Google services terms and conditions in the next step.
Click “OK” on the “Review additional apps” screen.
Finally, tick all the “I agree” checkboxes on the “Legal documents” page and hit “DONE” to complete the setup wizard.
We have successfully landed on the LG Stylo 5 home screen thus bypassing the secure startup.
