LG Stylo 5 Root, Bootloader Unlock, TWRP & Custom ROM – lmq720

With every passing day, the rooting process on Android is getting tougher. At one time, we use to root our phones in one click without using a computer.

I rooted my LG Tribute 5 even without unlocking the bootloader. It’s not possible anymore.

Nowadays, to root any android smartphone, we need to unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery such as TWRP and then we can flash a flashable supersu or Magisk zip file via TWRP to get root access. I rooted my LG Stylo 3 plus in the same manner.

Let’s try to root the LG Stylo 5 using the above procedure –

First of all, we need to turn on “OEM Unlock” & “USB Debugging”. Both these settings are found in the “Developer Options”.

Let’s open the Settings app and select the “General” tab. Now scroll down and choose “Developer options”.

If you’ve not yet enabled the Developer Options on your Stylo 5, follow the below video –

On the Developer options page, we need to look for “Enable OEM Unlock”. Let’s tap this option.

Hit “ENABLE” to allow OEM unlocking. Once we turn on OEM unlocking, Google’s Factory Reset Protection (FRP) is turned off.

Now, scroll down and enable “USB Debugging” in the same manner.

Select “OK” to allow USB debugging.

Now, that we have turned on OEM unlocking and USB Debugging, let’s connect our Stylo 5 to the computer using a USB Type-C cable.

On connecting your Stylo 5 to PC for USB debugging, you’ll see an “Allow USB Debugging” request on the phone screen.

Hit “OK” to authorize the connected computer for USB Debugging.

Now, wait for the ADB Interface driver to install on your computer. We can check the installation status using the Device Manager.

On my computer, the LGE Mobile ADB Interface driver is installed successfully.

Now, let’s proceed with the Bootloader unlocking.

LG Stylo 5 Bootloader Unlock

To unlock the bootloader we need to write an ADB command. For this, we need to install a Minimal ADB and fastboot tool on our computer.

I’ve installed Minimal ADB and Fastboot. Let’s launch this software.

It opens the cmd command prompt window.

Here we are going to write the ADB commands.

First of all, let’s check the ADB connection. Let’s type the command adb devices and hit enter on your PC keyboard.

The output of this command is LMQ720 device

LM-Q720 is the model number of LG Stylo 5.

Now, let’s try to boot our Stylo 5 into the fastboot mode for bootloader unlocking.

To put our Stylo 5 into fastboot mode we need to write the command adb reboot bootloader

Type this command and hit Enter.

The above command simply rebooted the Stylo 5 to the home screen.

I tried multiple times with the same result. The fastboot mode is not accessible on the Stylo 5.

Let’s try another fastboot command.

There is one more ADB command to access the fastboot mode –

adb reboot fastboot

Unfortunately, the output of this command is one and the same. The Stylo 5 simply restarted and landed on the home screen instead of Fastboot mode.

LG Stylo 4 Fastboot Mode

The Fastboot mode looks like this. The image belongs to LG Stylo 4 fastboot mode.

For bootloader unlocking, we need to write the adb command fastboot oem unlock

Without getting access to the Fastboot mode, it’s not possible to unlock the bootloader. And without unlocking the bootloader we cannot root our Stylo 5.

LG Stylo 5 TWRP Custom Recovery

A custom recovery can be installed only after unlocking the bootloader. If the bootloader remains in a locked state, we cannot flash TWRP.

LG Stylo 5 Custom ROM – Lineage OS

A custom ROM is available in the form of a flashable zip file. We need to flash a Magisk/SuperSU root file, or a Lineage OS custom ROM via a Custom Recovery such as TWRP.

As we failed to install TWRP on Stylo 5, we cannot flash a Lineage OS or any other Custom ROM.

Now, that you’ve enabled USB Debugging on your Stylo 5, you may like to use the Adoptable storage feature to move apps to SD card –
