There are 2 ways to update the android firmware on LG Tribute Empire. In the first method, you can download the OTA (over the air) System update via Settings and install it.
The other way is to grab an LG Tribute Empire stock firmware (ROM) file in kdz or tot format and flash it in Download Mode via LGUP Flash Tool.

LG Tribute Empire Firmware Download & Software Update – Boost Mobile, Sprint & Virgin Mobile – lmx220pm
1. LG Tribute Empire OTA Software Update via Settings
Open “Settings” on your Tribute Empire
Click on the “General” tab and select “System Updates”.
On the System updates page, click “Update LG Software”.
Now hit “Check now for update” as shown above.
It’s checking if a Software update is available or not. Make sure you are connected to the internet via Mobile Data or Wifi.
In my case, it says “There is a software update available”.
If you wish to download the software update via Wifi then select “Wi-Fi only” and tap “DOWNLOAD”.
The new software is being downloaded. As its a large file we need to wait for a while.
If you wish you can also Pause the download and resume it later.
Now the software update is ready to install.
Click “Install Now” to update the LG Tribute Empire Firmware.
The phone will reboot during the update. Don’t interrupt the software update process.
The software has been successfully updated on LG Tribute Empire.
2. LG Tribute Empire Firmware Update via Download Mode
To flash a stock firmware via LGUP we need to boot our Tribute Empire into Download Mode.
To put your Tribute Empire into Download Mode –
- Power off the phone.
- Turn on your computer and get a Micro USB Cable.
- Hold the Volume UP button on your Tribute Empire & connect one end of the cable to the phone.
- Keep holding the Volume UP key and insert the other end of the USB cable to the PC.
- Your phone must be now in the Download Mode. The above pictures belong to the Tribute Empire Download Mode.
Wait for the LG AndroidNet USB Serial Port & LG AndroidNet USB Modem Driver to install. The driver installation status can be checked via Device Manager.

We are going to use the LGUP tool to flash the stock firmware on the Tribute Empire
You can download LGUP Dual Mode from the below link –
Download the LGUP_DualMode.zip file and extract it.
Open the extracted LGUP_DualMode folder as shown above.
Install the LGUP_Store_Frame_Ver_1_14_3 setup file.
Finish the installation but don’t run LGUP yet.
Right-Click the SetUser file and select “Run as administrator”.
Now tap “LGUPU” to load the LGUP flash tool.
LGUP is loaded. The connected phone is visible as LM-X220PM which is the model number of LG Tribute Empire.
The current LG Firmware version is X220PM11g.
To load a firmware file we have to tap below “File Path” and hit the “3 dots” icon.
Browse for the Stock LG Tribute Firmware file in .kdz or .tot format.
After loading the Firmware file, hit “Start” to initiate the flashing process.
The firmware files are not made available by LG for Boost Mobile / Sprint / Virgin Mobile phones. In the case of MetroPCS / T-Mobile phones, every new Android firmware is made available at the official LG server in kdz file format.
