If you own an LG Tribute 5, you must have got it rooted with ease. However, its successor LG Tribute HD is amongst the latest LG Sprint prepaid phones running on marshmallow which is unrootable till date.
So since its release, the only gsm unlock solution known to me was via hardware tool called Gcpro key which is a costly affair and makes no sense for a single device. Then I came to know about a remote unlocking paid solution. I was just about to give it a try when I got a free and easy method which works without rooting the phone. Thanks to vittger @ xda forums. He wrote the unlocking method for LG G5 which worked well for Tribute HD LS676.
There is a small app called hidden menu call which gives access to the LG hidden menu without root.Follow the step by step tutorial to unlock your Tribute HD for free without paying a penny. Afterward, you can use it on At&t, Tmobile metro pcs, cricket etc.
You can download its apk file from the below link –
To do the unlocking we need to access LG Hidden Menu. For this, we’ve to install the downloaded apk file.
If you’ve downloaded the Hidden Menu Call app, get ready to install it. Click on the downloaded apk file.
It’ll say “Install blocked”. We’ve to enable “app installation from unknown sources” in security settings.
Click on “Settings” as shown in middle screenshot above
“Turn ON” app installation from unknown sources.
Accept the warning by clicking on “Allow”.
Now go one step back and again click on the apk file to complete the installation.
Click on “OPEN” to run the app. It’ll take you to LG Tribute HD’s hidden menu.
Scroll down and look for IOT(CDG2). Click on it to open IOT Hidden Menu
Look for “LTE Setting” and click on it.
On LTE Setting page you’ll see “Operation Mode”, click on it.
We’ve to change the Operation mode from “Production Network” to “Lab Network”.
Once you’ll select “Lab network” the phone will reboot. Wait for the phone to turn back on.
Once again open Hidden Menu Call app.
Go to IOT(CGD2) <LTE Setting and select “APN Setting” as shown in the screenshot above.
You’ve to configure the APN settings of the GSM carrier you wish to use.
On “Access Point Names” page, Long press the “Recent Apps” key.
A menu will open with the option to add APN.
Select “New APN”. The first is the name field. You can enter
the name of your carrier over here or just anything it doesn’t matter.
